Our Story
Jamie Kvittem resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has a background in high-tech, clean-tech, sustainable design and international education policy. Through her professional and personal ventures, as well as her global travels, Jamie continues to view the earth as a wondrous playground for all to explore and appreciate. Growing up in the country in Rosemount, Minnesota, Jamie liked to spend her summer days playing in the woods, collecting agates, picking strawberries and performing made-up plays.
During the years recovering from an organ transplant, Jamie reflected on her memories of her birthday. For her golden birthday Jamie had wished for a willow tree as her gift, and her wish came true. A willow tree was planted and grew tall and strong, just as Jamie has in her recovery from her transplant. During that time of recovery Jamie tapped deeply into her imagination as a source for healing.
Jamie had time to revisit the idea of Earthy, the character she had envisioned during her years studying sustainable design. Jamie has created a personified character of the earth named Earthy for children to embrace, relate to and learn from. Through the pages of this book, Earthy celebrates her earthday party on Earth Day and shares with children how to balance their time between green-time and screen-time.
With an appreciation for the global holiday called Earth Day in over 150 countries, Jamie hopes this story will lead to Earth Day celebrations that are meaningful and memorable for many years to come.
